Senate Candidate for the State of New South Wales
I came to Australia at the age of six, an orphan of the civil war in Sri Lanka. I spoke no English, and knew nothing about the strange ‘cold’ country I had arrived in. I was undernourished and sick and very frightened. But this country took me in, made me well again, taught me English and gave me a good education. It enabled me to overcome my fears, marry and raise a family of my own.
I so desperately want this country to continue to give its gifts to people like me. But I see a government determined to make hatred rule, and turn Australians against one another, to create an underclass to be bullied and blamed for their own misery. I couldn’t stand by and watch that happen. So I have joined the fight.
